Because of the flexibility inherent in home schooling, an internship can be a wise and practical option for many home schoolers to gain school credits, work experience, define a career path, and the opportunity to train in a particular profession or skill set. Internships can pave the way to job opportunities or college preparedness.

Things to Consider:

  • Realize that most internships begin between the ages of 15 and 21.
  • Determine your child’s area of interest.
  • Search for local internship opportunities.
(If an internship is not advertised, be willing to ask a professional in the area of interest if they are willing to take on an intern.)
  • Be prepared to fulfill a designated commitment.
  • Know that there are paid and unpaid internships.
