Just as with the primary election earlier this year, multiple homeschool runoff candidates are parents who will help defend freedom for Texas families. Despite being a small percentage of the population, homeschoolers have a major impact on Texas state policy!
Here are the homeschool parents running for office that THSC has vetted and endorsed for their respective seats.
Dr. Stuart Spitzer
Stuart Spitzer is running for office in Texas House District 4. He previously represented the district in 2015 and 2016, and is seeking to represent it again. Spitzer is a homeschool dad who worked with THSC in support of homeschooling and freedom for Texas families.
Spitzer advanced to the runoff after just barely falling short of 50 percent in the four-way primary race for this open seat. He needs the help of the homeschooling community to win the runoff election, return to the Texas House and protect Texas families.
Homeschool dad and THSC member Ben Leman is running to represent Texas House District 13. Leman advanced to the runoff election after a five-way primary race for this open seat. A supporter of educational freedom, he shares our belief that families are best equipped to homeschool, raise and make decisions for their own children. THSC is proud to support his candidacy and is excited to see a strong voice for homeschoolers in the Texas House!
Brent Lawson is a candidate in Texas House District 62 and is advancing to the runoff election after a three-way primary race for this open seat. Lawson is a homeschool dad who has committed all of his energy and passion to this race! If elected to the Texas House, he will represent the values of his conservative district and of homeschoolers around the state.
Bunni Pounds is running for office in Texas Congressional District 5. She is a homeschool mom who is passionate about protecting the rights of families. THSC proudly supported her during the primary election and we are happy to support her again.
Pounds advanced to the runoff after a primary race against seven other candidates. Her runoff opponent is current liberal member of the Texas House of Representatives. He has opposed pro-homeschool and pro-family legislation in past legislative sessions. A supporter of family values, Bunni provides a clear contrast to her opponent’s poor voting record.
Help Elect These Candidates!
We are excited to support so many conservative warriors for your homeschooling and family rights. They also happen to be homeschoolers themselves! Here are three ways that you can help them today:
- Vote for these candidates by May 22 and help elect some of the most pro-homeschooling candidates that we have ever supported. May 14-18 is early voting and election day is May 22, 2018. These candidates can only be elected with your vote!
- Give a generous donation to support THSC’s election work. Your donations will be used to garner support for these candidates and for others whom we have endorsed.
- Finally, volunteer for these candidates. Volunteers do tasks such as block walking and poll greeting. These are the most helpful ways to turn out voters. Campaigns must contact their constituents, and they need your help to do it. Contact us today to be connected with a campaign near you.
We believe that families have a God-given right to raise their children and that families should be empowered to raise the next generation of leaders. By joining our fight, you are Keeping Texas Families Free.
