New Year’s Eve is celebrated in many different ways across the world. A favorite for many families during this time of celebration is a fireworks display. Living in the country, our family enjoys a good show. We plan for the evening by clearing a launching pad, gathering the water hoses (just in case), and securing a sturdy base for our launch tubes. The weather is checked for wind conditions and burn bans. The kiddos select the fireworks they would like to shoot off and the purchases are made. Once the evening arrives, our anticipation builds. Will the plan come together? Will our expectations be met?

The funny thing is, we don’t really know what to expect. We have an idea of the beauty and grandeur because of other firework displays. We know what we planned and prepared, but what we feel most is the anticipation  of the things we don’t know. Will the fireworks be big and sparkly or will they be quick, bright and loud? Sometimes we even question if our plan will come together at all.

Homeschooling is like preparing for a family fireworks show.

  • We make a plan by watching others, asking questions and gathering ideas.
  • We purchase the necessary supplies like curriculum and notebooks.
  • We check with experts to see if our plan is functional and ask for guidance.
  • We wait for the show to begin.

When you home educate, you get to watch the best fireworks show around. You see the little lightbulbs, sparklers and roman candles in your child’s education. In the beginning, you aren’t always sure what the display will look like, but you have an idea that it will be bright and loud, sparkly and explosive. Will there be a few duds? Yes. But the beauty of the show will far outweigh the disappointments if the effort is placed on your planning.

Planning your home education is made simple by the 2017 THSC Conventions. Families from across the state will join us in Arlington and The Woodlands for a weekend of planning, purchasing and education. Find wisdom through speakers who will help you prepare your plan for 2018; select the right curriculum for your children from an exhibitor in our Exhibitor Hall; and leverage the plans of other home schoolers through our special gatherings. You will not want to miss this spectacular, illuminating event. Registration is opening soon!
