In the spring of 2018, homeschoolers won significant victories in primary elections. In addition to our success in the March primary, homeschoolers achieved several more big wins in the May 22 runoff elections. THSC expressed a need and you responded. The result was an overwhelming success overall.

Below are some notable victories from the May 22 elections.

Jim Pikl and Mike Toth Win Texas Appellate Races

In a great victory for Texas families, Pikl and Toth won their races for the Third and Fifth Court of Appeals, respectively. With the frequent judicial abuse coming from Texas family courts, families have two new judges that will reliably uphold their legal rights and defend the rule of law.

3 New Champions of Liberty Headed to U.S. Congress

Dan Crenshaw, Ron Wright and Chip Roy won their congressional primaries and will be strong advocates for Texas families. They all face new opponents in the November general election, but each is favored to win. Unfortunately, Bunni Pounds lost her runoff against longtime establishment candidate Lance Gooden. Nevertheless, Texas will likely send three new pro-family representatives to Washington after the November elections.

Texas House: Mixed Bag of Results, but Good Final Numbers

Heading into the runoff elections last night, conservative candidates were seeking to take six Texas House seats previously held by liberals. Since conservatives defended every seat during the primary election, no conservative seats were at risk during the runoff.

In the March primary elections, pro-family candidates also gained at least four seats in the Texas House. That number jumped to five last night, after Deanna Metzger won the Texas House District 107 runoff in Dallas.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to win them all. Texas families experienced several disappointing losses in the Texas House runoff. Pro-family conservatives Thomas McNutt, Jill Wolfskill, Matt Beebe, Stuart Spitzer and Brent Lawson lost their runoffs to establishment candidates.

However, the good news is that pro-family candidates gained five seats overall during the primary elections, whereas the establishment picked up none and failed to dislodge any conservative incumbents.
