The THSC Watchmen are charged with protecting parental rights and homeschool freedoms during the Texas legislative session. They analyze thousands of bills, lobby legislators, testify in committees and help plan THSC Capitol Days.

Emma Little

2017 marked the first co-ed THSC Watchmen team. We’ve already introduced Vida and Megan.  Now let’s hear from Emma Little about why she applied to be a THSC Watchman:

What was your initial interest in the THSC Watchmen?

What drew me to the program was its emphasis on protecting the rights of homeschoolers. The THSC Watchmen work to identify and stop legislation harmful to the homeschooling community.

As the only organization in Austin protecting homeschooling rights full time during the session, THSC Watchmen are tasked with analyzing all related legislation and authoring amendments or recommendations to best protect both parental and homeschooling rights.

The Watchmen create relationships with legislators promoting homeschooling and engage in community outreach informing the homeschooling community about potential effects of current legislation.  This allows the involvement of Texas homeschool families  in the state’s political process.

The work of the THSC Watchmen strengthen parental rights—essential to ensuring continued freedom for Texas homeschool families.

How can the homeschool community at-large play a role in this legislative session?

Get involved! We need a grassroots presence now more than ever. An active base of constituents can make a real impact on our legislative future. The homeschool community is uniquely positioned to engage the whole family, which is both a great teaching tool and bonding experience.

  • Contact your legislators about THSC-endorsed legislation such as parental rights and CPS reform.
  • For families looking for an in depth experience, check out the THSC Rangers Program and visit us on one of three THSC Capitol Days—both great opportunities to learn more about citizenship and Texas politics.

Supporting the fight in Keeping Texas Families Free is a worthy and fulfilling endeavor that I hope many Texas families pursue! We could not do what they do in Austin without the generous support of financial donors.
